The Leather Golf Bag

The leather golf bag. Is there a better way to play golf than walking a great golf course, carrying your own leather golf bag. Just look at the picture above - a glorious celebration of the game of golf made by the best in the business, The Mackenzie Golf Bag Company. They are handmade to order, though you can find them in some of the best golf shops in the country. They are not cheap. They aren't meant to be. They are an expression of your love of the game and will last for a lifetime and then some.
The owner, Todd Rohrer, even included the Union Jack flag inside the pocket of the green Mackenzie Walker bag he made for me. It's our "in joke" and it makes me smile every time I use the bag.
The company also makes headcovers, shoe bags and shag bags, all crafted from the best leather that money can buy. Based in Portland, Oregon, Mackenzie continues to practice the art of high quality personal craftsmanship and maintaining all that is good about the game of golf. Read More Here.

White Wooden Golf Tees

Please, don't tell me your plastic tee allows the golf ball to go 3 yards further. One, I don't believe you and two, so what if it does. It's still no excuse to have a plastic tee in your pocket. Pure golfers play with white wooden tees.  (The natural wood finish is also acceptable). But please no logo tees, colored tees or god forbid, brush tees. The wooden tee is simple, classic and perfect for the job and in America, free! You can pick up a handful on the first tee at most clubs, unlike the UK where the pro will charge you a couple bucks for 20 tees! Enjoy the brilliance of one of the elements of the game that has remained unchanged in 50 years.

Pure Golf Course Design - Ballyneal

There will be a lot more to come on golf course design as well as great products on "the golf purist". Here's one of my favorite holes from the last 10 years - the 7th at wonderful Ballyneal in Colorado.

Jan Craig Headcovers

We like the classics in golf - leather bags, white gloves, forged blades. This new blog is going to take a look at a few of these. Let's start with the wool head covers of Jan Craig. Here are mine in green and purple to match my golf bag! Jan Craig founded the company in 1962 and Jack Nicklaus was one of the first clients, followed swiftly by virtually every professional of the era. There are many JC wannabees, but nothing quite says "purist golfer" like her knitted woolen covers.
